Founded in 1898 by a former employee of W. Britain, Mr F. W. Wood the John Hill Company became the first to produce hollow cast figures for sale as individual pieces rather than in sets. This forced W. Britain to assume a similar stance but with an item of much better quality. Being one of the last to enter the plastic market probably led to the eventual downfall of the John Hill Co. who eventually ceased trading in the early 1960's.
